Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship
Presented For Its 10th Year With a Virtual Ceremony
The 2020 Recipient Of The Chick Roberts Scholarship is Deserving Student, Andrew Pogue.
Coatesville, PA (June 5, 2020) - The American Water Works Association will be presenting the Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship award to deserving student, Andrew Pogue at 12:00 PM (PST) on June 24th with a virtual ceremony.
This is the tenth anniversary of the Chick Roberts Scholarship, established to honor Charles “Chick” Roberts’ contribution to the water community. Chick Roberts was an active AWWA member who was inducted into the American Water Works Association Hall of Fame in 1991. He valued education and helped bring in many new members into the American Water Works Association. Chick strove to uphold high professional standards, moral integrity and has been referred to as “the conscience” of the Water Treatment Industry.
The hope of the scholarship is to support and encourage a Pennsylvania engineering student entering the water industry. Today, Roberts Filter Group is happy to honor Andrew Pogue. Andrew is from Landisville, PA and attends Bucknell University. Through his studies and internship work at Gannett Fleming, Pogue has shown excellence and a commitment to safe water.
“I believe that it was the many horror stories I heard in which families did not have access to clean drinking water that first spurred me to want to work in the field,” says Pogue. “The knowledge of these events brought to my attention the need to be constantly evaluating our treatment processes and transportation systems to be locating threats to safe drinking water. The drinking water industry has direct effects on the health of both individuals and the environment, and I think that has really drawn me to work in the field.”
