Wheeler Bottom Underdrain
Proven Performance, Modern Upgrades,
and Full Lifecycle Support
Roberts Filter Group has over 75 years of experience designing, building, and rehabilitating Wheeler Bottom underdrains. Today, we continue to support the hundreds of Wheeler Bottoms still in service worldwide — with patented retrofit technologies, new construction options, and complete lifecycle services. Whether expanding a plant, rebalancing older filters, or maintaining existing systems, Roberts has the expertise and OEM parts to keep Wheeler Bottoms performing for decades.
Our Wheeler Bottom Solutions
Patented Color-Coded Retroliners
Traditional Wheeler Bottoms were designed with uniform hoppers, thimbles, and porcelain spheres — which often created uneven flow around piers, corners, and flumes. Roberts’ patented Retroliners solve this by using color-coded inserts with different flow characteristics. With the help of in-field measurements and CFD modeling, we rebalance flow for even distribution, restoring performance to older Wheeler Bottoms.
New Wheeler Bottom Construction
For utilities expanding capacity, Roberts designs and installs new monolithic or precast concrete Wheeler Bottom underdrains. Our modern construction techniques deliver long-lasting performance and integrate seamlessly with existing plant infrastructure.
OEM Parts & Replacements
Roberts supplies authentic replacement porcelain spheres and thimbles for Wheeler Bottom underdrains worldwide. These components are manufactured to the same high standards as the originals, ensuring fit, reliability, and longevity.
Lifecycle Services
Our dedicated service crews perform inspections, condition assessments, and full rehabilitations of Wheeler Bottom underdrains. Each project is delivered with transparent scopes of work, documented results, and OEM-backed warranties.
